Experimentation

Collecting Data

On March 29th, a lockdown rang throughout the school. The team of Safe T Pass timed the lockdown in hopes of gathering data to improve the app.

In a similar event on May 4th, a fire drill was sounded due to an emergency. Our team timed the length of the drill and the time it took for emergency personnel to get the attendance.

We had hoped to experiment with our app in a real emergency, but there was not time before expo. So, we conducted a simulation in the classroom.

With the lockdown, we recorded a total time of 5 minutes and 33 seconds.

With the fire drill, we recorded a total time of 20 minutes and 46 seconds and a time of 10 minutes before the attendance collector even reached our station.

With the in-class simulation, we found that it would take an average of 1 minute and 4 seconds to take attendance with our app.

The research team used this information to compare our product with other apps. With this data, we will create an app were organization is key, as it will improve lockdown time and management - making the process easier for  students and faculty.

We experimented with these books to see if a substitute would really want to read these books in the event of an emergency.
